California Anthem

Well the seasons come and the seasons go,

Nothing ever stays the same......

There's one thing I know that will never change;

That's the love of the land from which I came.

(Chorus)

California, California

With the waves upon your shoreline,

Will you call me home when my life is done,

To rest in your hills so fine....

From your rocky shore

To your forests green,

To your valleys deep and wide,

There's a light I see on the faces there,

And a spirit you just can't hide.

Chorus

Many years have passed since I roamed the hills

In the golden glow of sunlight,

As the darkness falls all around me now,

I love you with all my might!

Chorus

I Love you with all my heart!

"I have respectfully requested the leaders of the California National Party to remove my anthem, "California Anthem," from their Facebook page. They probably were not aware of the ramifications of posting to a political group page without obtaining permission first from the author/composer. While I appreciate very much their request to make the "California Anthem" their new state song, I am not able to give permission to post my composition on their website, Facebook page, or in any of their promotional materials.

Anyone can request to sing the anthem, but that is not the issue. The issue is that this anthem's intent, and the spirit in which it was written--was not to represent one party over another, but to celebrate ALL the people of the State of California. (Many people around the world suggested that it should be the new State Anthem for CA.....) I would like to see it become the state anthem; not representing one political party, or one group of people."   Kristi Kelty, 11/14/16

Invitation From Dean Mermell:posted to
Special, Special Event!

Next Sunday, August 25, we've put together a very special event. Composer Kristi Kelty has written a heart-stoppingly beautiful song: The California Anthem. When we first heard about this, we tried to have it performed as part of our grand finale to the project, but it was too much to get together in the amount of time we had.

Through a lot of hard work and coordination over the last month, members of five different choirs have come together to perform this gorgeous work as a 60 voice choir with a grand piano at the original Sunset Piano location. We're filming and recording it for Twelve Pianos, and we'd love for you to come!

That's Sunday August 25, at Francis Beach, end of Kelly Ave. in Half Moon Bay.
Come NO LATER than 7pm. We need to get everyone into place and then we'll perform it 2 or 3 times for the cameras as the sun sets. This will be more than a little epic. And we plan to have a few other musical guests, as well.

Come!

Testimonials

  1. SodorSecretStudios 1 year ago   I literally shed tears over this song. It is so beautiful!!! I miss my beautiful home so much and can't wait to return.
  2. caligal2350 2 years ago               Gosh! xD The chorous IS BEAUTIFUL! x3
  3. Audinos 2 years ago                This is a much better and more dignified song than A. F. Frankenstein's corny 1913 relic, "I Love You, California." This tune could actually be arranged for band use for ceremonial occasions without sounding overly dated or modern
  4. DarKstarnosa151 1 year ago       This *needs* to become our anthem/official song/whatever you call it, it has a lot more of an epic sound to it than "I love you    California".
  5. Jeeves1952 9 months ago           Lovely song! We really need an anthem or state song worthy of CA. It's just too important and too grand to have a song that nobody knows...We need this song!
